Oyo state government has installed One-Way Tyre Spikes to deter motorists from driving against traffic.
The move, it was gathered was part of effort to enforce traffic regulations and improve road safety in the state.
Corenews observed that, the spike barrier was recently installed at Idi-Ape area, Ibadan North East local government, a move which has attracted commendation from motorists.
In a viral video which brought attention to the barrier, showcased the functionality and usage by road users.
The short footage captures the enforcement tool in action, demonstrating how the spikes are designed to puncture the tyres of vehicles attempting to drive in the wrong direction.
A source who pleaded anonymity said the introduction of tyre spikes is part of the government’s strategies in its efforts to upscale enforcement of the rule of law in the state as well as to curb reckless driving and reduce road accidents caused by one-way violations.
The tyre spikes, it was gathered will only not make it physically impossible for motorists to flout the rule without consequences, authorities envisaged to instill more discipline among road users.
However, as at the time of this report, the State government was yet to release any official statement on whether more spike barriers will be installed across other locations in Ibadan and beyond.
Commuters see the move as a firm stance against traffic violations and reinforces the administration’s commitment to enforcing road laws.
