Ibadan-Ijebu Ode kidnap: Oyo Police reviews security architecture

Oyo State Police Command on Tuesday said it has reviewed what it described as the security architecture of the Ibadan-Ijebu Ode axis of the state following the report of abduction of three individuals on the road on Sunday.

 

The Spokesman of the Command, Adewale Osifeso, a Suprerintendent of Police while giving an update on the incident to The Nation said the new move will accommodate an increase in the number of operational and tactical assets deployed to the area.

 

He assured that more updates would be giving as the police makes more progress on the incident.

 

Osifeso said “There has been a careful review of the security architecture of the area to accommodate an increase in the number of the Command’s operational and tactical assets deployed in the Jurisdiction.

 

“More updates will be provided soon.”

 

Recall that the incident which occurred Sunday evening according to reports led to the death of a driver as a result of sporadic shooting.

 

While three occupants of the car were abducted, four other passengers sustained gunshot injuries.

 

The incident, it was gathered, occurred at about 6:00 p.m. at Longe village, not too far from Cocoa Research Institute of Nigerian (CRIN) at Idi Ayunre in Ibadan, Oyo State.

 

The kidnappers, who were said to had laid ambush, came out and started shooting sporadically when they sighted an approaching vehicle.

 

It was reported that the kidnappers’ shot hit an unregistered ash-coloured Toyota Corolla car, a Toyota Sienna with registration number Lagos KSF 387 YE and a Mazda 6 car with registration number Lagos AKD 08 JB — leading to the death of the Mazda car’s driver, gunshot injuries to two female and two male occupants in the Sienna bus and abduction of three males in the Toyota Corolla car.

 

The driver of the Mazda car, later identified as Abiodun Emmanuel Omotoye, and that of Sienna bus, were said to have made spirited efforts to escape from the kidnappers’ attack, causing their cars being shot at.

 

According to reports, the owner of the Mazda car, however, survived the attack as he came out of the car unscathed, though visibly shaken.
