The Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Oyo State and his counterpart at the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Bosun Olabiyi have called for calm among the workers in the state.

The duo made the call while addressing workers who are currently waiting at the entrance gate of the Oyo State Governor’s Office, Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan.

The workers marched to the Governor’s Office shortly after Monday Congress where they insisted that a resolve must be made on the issue of the wage award today.

Taking a break from an ongoing meeting negotiation meeting between the labour leaders and government, Comrade Martins said the meeting is discussing what would benefit the generality of the workers.

He assured the workers that the government has agreed to pay, but yet to disclose the amount to pay as wage award in the state.

He assured the workers that flowing from the ongoing discussions, the workers will begin to receive alert of payment between Tuesday and Wednesday, noting that the next line of action would be depending on how much the government pays and when they pay, latest by Friday.

He said the final decision on what would happen lies with the governor.

The governor was not yet at the office at the time of this report.

He appealed to the security operatives on ground to be calm with the workers stressing that the workers are at the Governor’s Office for peace.

Shortly after the address, the labour leaders re-entered the Governor’s Office where they said they are continuing negotiations.

The NLC Chairman, Comrade Kayode Martins, TUC Chairman, Comrade Bosun Olabiyi, JNC (Public Service) Chairman, Comrade Olaonipekun Oluwaseun and Comrade Segun Abatan (Secretary, NUP) are representing labour in the ongoing negotiations.
